Council begins review of special needs transport
The county council has kicked off a series of engagement events with families of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and schools to discuss how to improve home-to-school and home-to-college transport. The council has a range of support in place to assist with SEND transport arrangements for around 3,000 children and young people, including a travel allowance to help parents with the cost of taking their children to school, subsidised public transport and contracted vehicles, such as buses, minibuses and taxis. Over the next nine months the council will be reviewing the SEND transport system to improve its efficiency and the experience of children and young people using it, which will result in a new transport policy. A guide to the council’s current SEND transport policy can be viewed on the SEND Local Offer website.
