Green Flag Award for Ewell Court Park
In July four green spaces within Epsom and Ewell, including Ewell Court Park, were recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as some of the very best in the world. The Green Flag Awards Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the Department of Communities and Local Government. This international Green Flag award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Epsom and Ewell Borough Council put forward four green spaces for judging, selected as representative of the different green spaces within the borough:
- Ewell Court Park has won the award for the sixth year in a row. It represents a garden with historic roots linked to Ewell Court House.
- Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve has won the award for the eleventh consecutive year. It is the largest local nature reserve in Surrey and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
- Alexandra Recreation Ground has also won the award for the sixth year in a row. It is a sports ground with facilities for cricket, soccer, bowls, tennis and basketball situated in Alexandra Road.
- Rosebery Park has won the award for the fifth time this year. It is a formal town centre park.
