Speed and Red Light Cameras along the A240
Firstly some good news. The two speed and red light cameras on the A240 Kingston Road at the junction of Bradford Drive and Stoneleigh Park Road have been replaced by a new “Red Speed” digital speed camera system. It means that it will now be possible to provide continuous enforcement of speeding and red light jumping in both directions without the need to change the film or move cameras around from housing to housing. The Red Speed brand cameras are also taller and so should be harder to vandalise. Importantly the cost of the replacement is being funded fully from part of the fees charged to those attending speed awareness courses, so at no cost to the SCC or Surrey Police. The ongoing cost of operating the cameras is also fully recovered in the same way.
Unfortunately the work to change the camera system was quite disruptive leading to delays along the A240 and traffic congestion in the area. Not a good start for the cameras, but I do hope they will be effective catching speeding and inconsiderate motorists.
A240 – Turning left into Bradford Drive
Unfortunately some drivers are still turning left into Bradford Drive at theA240 traffic lights, having driven passed the slip road entry point. I therefore arranged a site meeting in October with a Surrey Highways engineer and he has agreed to move and improve the sign leading up to the exit, and also cut back the trees which are partly blocking the sign and traffic signals. I have no date for the completion of the work but, hopefully, once completed we will see fewer drivers making that wrong turn.
